BEHIND THE SCENES
Some of the tasks remain the same.Rendering speed, workflows and software keep improving.
Workflows
Past screenshots from different steps in the creation of computer-generated imagery (CGI).
Frequently used skills:
Scene setup
selecting models, props, environments
Camera
framing of the image, depth of field (DoF), aperture (F-stop)
Lighting
scene lights, environment lighting, light emissive surfaces
Materials & Shaders
color scheme, node based editing, texture editing
Simulations
dynamic clothing & hair simulations
Postproduction
layer compositing with masks
On a project basis:
Animation
keyframe animation, procedural particle emitters
Custom 3D assets
vertex modeling, sculpting, texture painting, UV layout
Camera Equipment

Computer Hardware
In 2011 rendering 3D images with the CPU could take more than 24 hours.
Switching to GPU rendering with Nvidia graphic cards drastically reduced the required time.

In the following years new GPU kept reducing the render time from hours to minutes to seconds...
